JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Former South African President Nelson Mandela's admission to hospital on Saturday was planned and did not involve an operation, a spokesman for the ruling African National Congress (ANC) said.

"There's no need for panic," ANC spokesman Keith Khosa told South Africa's e-News channel. "It was not an emergency admission. It was planned."
