WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama's new rule on contraceptives is an attack on religious freedom and Congress will act if necessary to stop it, House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said on Wednesday.

Boehner, the top Republican, said if Obama does not abandon the regulation, the House will move to stop it through legislation. Speaking on the House floor, Boehner said, "This attack by the federal government on religious freedom ... cannot stand and will not stand."
