The brachial artery is the major blood vessel located in the upper arm, which it supplies with blood. It continues from the axillery artery down the arm's ventral surface, where it, along with the medial cubital vein and bicep tendon, make up the cubital fossa, the triangular depression of the elbow's anterior aspect.
The brachial artery then divides into two arteries running down the forearm: the ulnar and radial. However, in some people this bifurcation occurs earlier, causing these arteries to run through the upper arm.
The brachial artery's pulse can be felt on the elbow's anterior aspect (medial to the bicep tendon); hence, blood pressure is measured in this area by either a sphygmomanometer (a blood pressure cuff) or a stethoscope.
The brachial artery and the median nerve are related; the median nerve lies anterior to the elbow joint, on the brachial artery's medial side. The brachial artery branches off into the radial, inferior ulnar collateral, profunda brachii, superior ulnar, and ulnar arteries.
